The Ennis ISD School Board rearranged itself Tuesday night after saying goodbye to a longtime member and welcoming its newest, and announced pending superintendent evaluation meetings.

The board, after accepting the results of the May 11 election, swore in new Place 6 trustee Julie Pierce and returning Place 7 trustee Bramlet Beard.

The Ennis ISD School Board will pay tribute to an outgoing member before swearing in its newest trustee tonight.

The board is set to recognize the service of retiring Place 6 trustee Dr. Larry Treadaway during their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. tonight. The board will then swear in and seat Julie Pierce, the winner of Saturday’s election.

Treadaway is stepping down after 17 years of service to the Ennis ISD School Board.

Unofficial election results after Saturday polling show Julie Pierce gained the vacant Place 6 seat on the Ennis Independent School District Board of Trustees, Matt Walker is the city’s new Ward 6 commissioner and Carolyn Frazier retained her Ward 2 seat.

In the contested school board race, out of 1,310 total votes, Pierce secured 985.

Her opponents, Dean Blazek and Terri Barton, earned 200 and 125 total votes, respectively.

“I’m feeling great,” Pierce said. “I’m completely overwhelmed by the support I’ve received.”

Ennis ISD teacher Sheryl Stuckly is spearheading an effort to collect supplies for the teachers of West Intermediate School, which was destroyed in the April 17 explosion that killed 15 people and devastated the heart of the town.

Stuckly said her nephew is a student at West Intermediate, which was one of the buildings closest to the site of the blast.

Candidates for local offices turned in their latest financial disclosure forms May 3, and some showed modest gains since the last disclosure deadline of April 26.

Terri Barton continues to lead all other candidates in fundraising for the race for Place 6 on the Ennis ISD School Board, with a total of $4,163.13 reported. Barton reported $3,450 previously. More than $3,000 of that comes from Barton for U.S. Congress, while $1,000 comes from Terri Barton’s own pocket.

Parents and teachers gathered Monday night at the Ennis High School senior cafeteria to honor the National Honor Society’s graduating seniors.

NHS Advisor Joel Davenport said the evening was a chance to look back on the year that was and congratulate students on four years of exemplary work.

“This is the best has to offer,” Davenport said of the students assembled in the room. “They’re excited about wrapping up their senior year, going to college or wherever they’re going. Some are going to serve their country, some are going to Ivy League schools and some aren’t sure yet, and that’s okay too.”

The Ennis High School Lionettes will help a local family in need this Monday with the help of the Ennis Chili’s.

The restaurant will host a Give Back Night from 4 to 10 p.m. May 6. Proceeds from the Give Back Night will go to the family of Perry Calvin, a 37-year-old firefighter killed in the West explosion.
