Inside the Lions big win

In a game surely to be chronicled in Ennis Lions lore, the Area Round 17-13 triumph over Timberview, who were picked to win by 5-of-7 sportswriters in one Dallas newspaper, were strategies and sizable plays that spelled the difference.

Thanks to a last minute chopping down of No. 4 ranked Timberview, No. 7 ranked Ennis (10-2) has advanced to play The Colony (9-3) in Friday’s regional semifinal at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

When No. 7 ranked Ennis faces No. 3 Timberview on Friday in Mansfield, a rematch of their season opener, the storylines will be clear.

Palmer’s season comes to close

Rudy Ramos (21), senior running back for Palmer High, played his final game in black and gold on Saturday in the first round of the state playoffs.

Palmer’s season came to an end Saturday in Glen Rose with a 44-35 upset loss to the Clifton Cubs in the first round of the state playoffs. The Bulldogs held the lead for most of the game and were up 29-28 going into the fourth quarter, but the team was outscored 15-6 in the fourth.
Head coach Don Waddle said the key factor that put Clifton ahead was a couple of momentum swinging turnovers.

Palmer has chance to reach another milestone

Rudy Ramos (21), senior running back for Palmer High, played his final game in black and gold on Saturday in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Palmer Bulldogs have a chance to do something they have only done once in their history — win a playoff game.

Ennis travels to East Texas for the fourth time in less than two months when they take on Lindale at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the 6,200 seat Eagle Stadium.

Ennis Lion makes national spotlight

All-American James Lockhart, a defender for the Ennis Lions, was honored Wednesday as one of only three north Texas representitives for the Jan. 4 U.S. All-American Bowl. The game will be played at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio and will be nationally televised on NBC. 
Flanking Lockhart are Sergeant First Class Jarvis Foster, Captain Daniel Thomas and Captain Francis Santana. The senior has played at middle linebacker this season, though he may be returning to his defensive end position on Friday when Ennis travels to play unbeaten Jacksonville.

When the No. 2 ranked Ennis High School football team takes the field on Friday in Mansfield will be a player whose performance can be best described as perennial. He has turned in highly productive seasons as recurring as perennial plants, year after year.
