Storms in Ennis last Friday didn’t hamper the Saturday night racing action at 85 Speedway, but the super moon made for great racing. There were challenges for multiple positions in every race division.

What a bittersweet occasion this past Saturday night was at 85 Speedway.

With a full moon and driver tensions high while trying to earn more points on the last night of regular season racing, the evening was full of action.

With the IMCA Sportmods not racing, the Lone Star Dwarf Car Club made a special appearance.

The Texas Motorplex will host its final Thundering Thursday event of the year this week, starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 8.

It was a jam-packed night of racing at 85 Speedway this past Saturday.

Due to other area tracks being rained out, many new drivers came out to 85 Speedway to race. Some race divisions experienced full fields and the stands were packed with new fans.

Drivers Brandi Strain and Rachel Guest pose with the Mesquite Mustangs youth football team. The Mustangs made the trip to 85 Speedway last weekend to watch their coach Patrick Powers compete in the Bomber A-Main.

It was a great weekend to be back at 85 Speedway with a fun-filled night of racing. With Texas suffering through severe drought conditions, track owner Roger Archer was able to use his expertise to prepare another fast track.

85 Speedway driver Colby Finch passed away last week after an accident in Oklahoma, and he was honored by his fellow drivers and the fans at this past weekend’s event at the track.

A shadow of sadness hovered over 85 Speedway on Saturday night.

Colby Finch, driver of the No. 52x IMCA Modified, passed away Friday just one day after his 18th birthday. Finch suffered head injuries caused by a tragic accident while visiting relatives in Oklahoma last Wednesday.

Aaron’s Lucky Dog visited the 85 Speedway last weekend to catch some competitive racing and make sure the track’s young fans were having a great night.

85 Speedway in Ennis produced another entertaining and exciting night for race fans last Saturday. The evening started with Aaron’s Lucky Dog from Gun Barrel City giving out free gifts and posing for photos with the fans at the front gate with two talented young racers, Dalton Welch and Zach Jones.

Starting fourth in the Feature, the No. 11 of Thomas Lunsford was able to take the lead as soon as the green flag dropped. Lunsford managed to hold on to that first position when he crossed the finish line. Second went to the No. 28J of Justin Nabors.
