If the Ennis Lions’ undefeated record wasn’t enough to convince opponents the Lions mean business, Friday’s victory over the Red Oak Hawks should remove lingering doubts.

“We wanted to win and we needed to win. It showed us that we are a playoff team and now can battle through it all,” Lion quarterback said Brandon Adams.

The Ennis Lions (5-0, 2-0) continued their winning streak Friday night with a 74-0 homecoming shutout against the Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles (0-5, 0-2).

“We knew we were going to win, but we didn’t know we were going to win this good,” running back Cshamari Reed said.

The Ennis Lion Junior Varsity team (2-1) defeated the North Forney Falcons at home Thursday by a margin of 38-14.

“I thought North Forney was going to be a good opponent. I thought they were going to be a tough physical football team. I thought they were going to give us everything that we thought they gave us,” coach Nathan Moye said.

The Ennis Lions (2-0) defended their house in the first home game of the season, defeating the 5A Lewisville Farmers (0-2) 30-26.

“It was a good win for the kids, the community and the school,” said head coach Jack Alvarez. “A lot of good things happened tonight. The bad things of the game were overshadowed by just winning and being tough-minded and coming out with a big stop at the end of the game with the defense and making some big plays on offense. It was just a total team effort.”

A month from now, former Ennis Lion football coach Sam Harrell will add another honor to his prestigious resume. On Aug. 1 at coaching school in San Antonio, Harrell will be inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Hall of Honor. A first-ballot inductee selected by a four-man committee, the current Brownwood High quarterbacks coach is one of five inductees in the 2012 class.

By all accounts, it’s been a productive and positive spring for Lion football, and players got the chance to go out on a high note in Tuesday night’s spring game.

“There were a lot of positives (Tuesday),” said head coach Jack Alvarez. “We (also) have some issues out there and we’ve identified some things we have to work on. We didn’t come out here and run the ball every down; we wanted to throw it around a little bit and try to gain some confidence there.”
