American Legion falls in state 15U tourney

Photo by Dave A. Vance / American Legion No. 7 Rene Benevidez was a solid hitter during Thursday’s 21-15 loss against the Comanche Indians in the 15U TTAB state tournament. He hit three singles and one triple for two RBI.

After making Ennis Little League history last year by becoming the first Ennis team to win the Texas Teenage Baseball Association state championship, American Legion (4-2) claimed the junior boys’ league city championship and battled throughout the 15U TTAB state tournament to defend their title this year.

The second day of the inaugural Ellis County Futures Baseball Tournament proved to be exciting and unexpected. A younger Midlothian Panther team faced the older American Legion Senior Titans and proved they were a team to be reckoned with.

Photo by Dave A. Vance / Defending state champion American Legion defeated Price Distributing 7-6 during game three of the city championships Friday night to clinch the city title and head to the state tournament again this year.

Price Distributing and defending state champion team American Legion went into the third Junior Boys League city championship game Friday with one win each. Price Distributing won game one 13-2 and American Legion came out on top 9-8 in game two.

Undefeated Bubba’s BBQ take city crown

American League Bubba’s Bar-B-Q (16-0) finished a perfect season in Ennis Wednesday night with a 23-11 victory over the National League Heli-Hunters (12-4) to claim the title of city champions in the Junior Midget League.

The top American League and National League teams in the Junior Midget League played the first of a best-of-three game city championship series Monday night. Undefeated Bubba’s Bar-B-Q (15-0) put the American League at a one game advantage after a 20-3 victory over Heli-Hunters (12-3).

PTL Construction claims first 8U championship

Photo by Dave A. Vance / After falling to Sign Plex 12-1 in the first game Friday, PTL Construction came out on top 10-5 in the second game to claim the 8U Softball League championship.

PTL Construction (9-7) and Sign Plex (11-6) battled Friday night for the 8U Softball League championship. SP defeated PTL 12-1 in game one to force a tie-breaker game shortly afterward. PTL turned the tables on SP with a 10-5 victory to walk away with the championship.

Photo by Dave A. Vance / Six-year-old Sign Plex third baseman No. 6 Kendall Scroggins tagged several American Legion runners out keeping them out of scoring position during Thursday's 11-8 victory. She also hit a single for one RBI during the fifth inning to tie the game 7-7.

Sign Plex (10-5) and American Legion Auxiliary (8-7) faced one another Thursday to determine who would advance to the final round of the 8U Softball League playoffs today and advance to the district championships in July.

Lawrence grand slam drives American Legion win

Photo by Dave A. Vance / American Legion players celebrated Alston Lawrence's and Kyle Keever's first two homeruns of the game in the third inning. American Legion defeated Ferguson Electric 10-8 to advance to the city championships.

Defending state champions and current league second place American Legion (8-5-1) took to the field Wednesday night to play their second playoff game against third place Ferguson Electric (6-7-1) in the Junior Boys League.

17-2 victory keeps Heater’s Bullpen in playoffs

Fourth place Holiday Inn Express (5-9) and third place Heater’s Bullpen (6-8) faced off Tuesday night after both teams lost their first Freshman Softball League playoff games on Monday.
