The Ennis Lady Lions kicked off postseason play with a bang Friday night as the offense racked up 10 runs on 15 hits behind a perfect performance by Taylor Maliska, drubbing the Lindale Lady Eagles 10-0.

Griffin signs with Henderson University

Senior Sara Griffin is another exceptional Lion athlete that Ennis is proud of. Griffin’s athletic abilities and tennis skills earned her interest from a number of colleges. After weighing her options and visiting various schools, she chose to sign with Henderson University in Arkansas last Friday.

With playoff chances gone after falling 8-4 to Mansfield Summit last Tuesday, the Ennis Lions (11-15-2, 5-8) were focused on shutting down a struggling Lancaster Tiger team on Friday. The Lions defeated the Tigers 20-1 after five innings of play.

Lions play hearts out at regional tourney

John Marlin and Michael Nicklas advanced out of the first round in boys’ doubles at the regional tournament, but fell to Sherman in the second round.

The Ennis Lion varsity tennis team’s playoff run came to an end in the 4A Region II tournament, and the team concluded the 2013 season with a well-deserved 15-4A district championship title.

The Ennis Lions (9-13-2, 4-6) went into Tuesday’s game against the Red Oak Hawks with two back-to-back confidence-boosting wins, but Red Oak took an early lead and came out on top with an 8-3 victory.

Ennis Lion defensive back Shawn Johnson has been receiving a lot of attention from colleges this season. Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Washington and Washington State have all made offers to the junior to join their programs after graduation.

Goaltender Eduardo Gutierrez was impressive in Thursday's game by staving off Red Oak's scoring attempts. His lightening reflexes helped the Lions defeat the Hawks in sudden death.

After clinching the district championship back in March, the Ennis Lions (18-4-3, 7-2-1, 28-4A) have battled their way through the playoffs with success.

Lady Lions hold on against Indians 9-4

The Ennis Lady Lions got off to a rough start with defensive miscues leading to two Waxahachie runs in the top of the first inning, but a two run home run by Riley Fira immediately tied the game leading to a seven run rally in the next inning to put Ennis’s 9-4 victory beyond doubt.
