Palmer offers summer food drive

Palmer ISD is offering the second year of its Summer Food Service Program from June 3-Jun 26. Lunch hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Palmer Middle School facility at 118 FM 813. All children 18 and under are invited. Those over 18 must pay $3. Lunches will meet the USDA’s Nutrition Guidelines.

Disaster aid deadlines set

Federal disaster loans are available through the Small Business Administration for residents and business owners whose homes and commercial property suffered damage associated with the May 16 tornado in Ennis. Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application at the Small Business Administration’s secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. The filing deadline to return applications for property damage is July 29, 2013. The deadline to return economic injury applications is March 3, 2014.

Miracle Worker continues

‘Colossal Coaster World VBS

New Founders Missionary Baptist Church will host “Colossal Coaster World” Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8 p.m. daily June 17-20. All ages welcome above 3 years old. Summer Schedule for Ennis ISD

Effective June 10, Ennis ISD is observing a summer schedule. Most EISD campuses and buildings will be closed on Fridays during this period. This summer schedule helps generate savings in utility costs. Summer hours will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Exceptions to this schedule are campuses that are hosting summer school or any special programs as well as the maintenance/transportation building.

EISD will observe Thursday, July 4 as a district holiday for Independence Day. Offices will also be closed on Friday of that week.

The district will resume its regular schedule on Monday, August 5. The 2013-14 school year will begin on Monday, August 26.

Free Summer Nutrition Program

Ennis ISD has a Summer Nutrition Program that is open to children ages 1 to 18 and available free of charge. There are no income requirements or registration required to participate in this program.

The program is located at Carver Early Childhood Center, 600 East Martin Luther King, Monday through Thursday, from June 10 to July 3.

Serving times will be from 7:15-7:45 a.m. for breakfast and 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for lunch.

Lunch will also be provided at the Boys and Girls Club, 1211 South Clay, Monday through Friday, June 17 to August 16, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

“I would definitely encourage participation in this program,” said David Gutierrez, director of Child Nutrition Services for EISD.

GAKAC accepting nominations

Give A Kid A Chance, the community agency that provides back-to-school assistance and outreach throughout the year, is accepting online nominations for the August event at www.giveakidachance.com. Applications will be accepted through the end of May. An online applications isn’t necessary if you have already returned a form distributed by Ennis ISD. If you know a family in need of assistance for the back-to-school event, visit the site and nominate them. The event is being hosted by Ennis High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Families and children must attend and participate together.

Boys and Girls holding final summer orientation

The Boys and Girls club of Ennis will be having their last summer program orientation from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the club, located at1211 S. Clay St. Summer program hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
