Youth football plans fundraiser

The Ennis Youth Football Association will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at 2709 S. Kaufman St. A in Ennis. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any Ennis youth football player or by logging onto http://nbcf.stayclassy.org/events/detail?eid-7637. Log onto the ennisdailynews.com website for the link by clicking on community calendar. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. A silent auction and bake sale will also be held.

Chamber hosts luncheon

The Ennis Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly luncheon will be held at noon, Monday at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival approaching

It’s spring in central Texas and that means warm temperatures, beautiful wildflowers and the official Bluebonnet Festival of Texas. Celebrate the season April 9-10 in the quaint town of Chappell Hill.

The Bluebonnet Festival boasts more than 400 juried exhibitors featuring home accessories, gardening, artisans, clothing, jewelry and much more. There’s something for everyone. Plus, indulge in the delicious country-style food and live entertainment and music. A special Children’s Activity Corner provides pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, barrel train ride and more.

Festival hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the festival is free; parking is $5 and no street parking is allowed. Convenient parking for cars, buses and handicapped persons is available.

Enjoy the Chappell Hill Museum, and all this historic district has to offer during the most anticipated festival of the spring.

ADS plans ACS fish fry fund-raiser

Advanced Drainage Systems will hold a fish fry to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. March 25. New Founders Missionary Baptist Church’s Bounce Back program originally scheduled for Feb. 26 has been cancelled. The church is trying to reschedule.

Dorie Miller plans breakfast event

Dorie Miller’s annual fund-raiser, A Tasty Taco Breakfast, will be held from 7-11 a.m. Saturday at the school.

Tacos will be catered by Taco Cabana and gourmet coffee will be provided by Buna Bean.

There will also be a morning of fun for everyone with a carnival, silent auction, cake walk and raffle. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, and can be purchased at the door. Funds raised will be used to benefit teachers and students.

Lions Club cancelled Wednesday

Weather concerns have prompted the Ennis Noon Lions Club to close Wednesday. This week’s meeting will not be rescheduled.

EISD shuts schools

Ennis Independent School District announced on its website Wednesday evening that school will be closed for a third consecutive day as a result of freezing weather the past few days.

“Some parents and community members have inquired as to why Ennis ISD is closing for a third consecutive day on Thursday, Feb. 3. Due to uncertainty regarding the reliability of our electricity, we cannot guarantee that EISD schools can be adequately heated. Therefore, the decision was made to close schools again on Thursday. Thank you for your understanding regarding this issue, as we do recognize the importance of safe school operations. Please stay tuned for any further updates,” officials posted on the EISD web site Wednesday evening.
