Reception slated for super

The Ennis ISD School Board plans to welcome the district’s new superintendent at a public reception scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Ennis National Bank Event Center. The board will meet at 6 p.m. to officially name John Chapman as the new Ennis ISD Superintendent.

The directors who care for the Myrtle Cemetery Memorial Chapel, ensuring its availability and vitality, call it a “hidden jewel” in the community’s oldest and largest cemetery.

City closure set on New Year’s

The offices of the city of Ennis will be closed for the New Year’s holiday on Jan. 1. Garbage collection routes will not run that day. Regular office hours and regular garbage collection will resume Jan. 2.

News office shut for holiday

The Ennis Daily News will print one edition for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2014 that will be distributed Tuesday. The office will be closed for the holiday Wednesday and will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Sunbeamers set to begin new year of activity

The Sunbeam Club will begin a new year of great fellowship and the sharing of railroad memories on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for railroaders, their families and friends and anyone else who loves a train at the Ennis IHOP.

Santa pet pictures set

Tammy Koch will take pet pictures with Santa Claus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet City Veterinary Clinic, located at 215 SW. Main St. in Ennis. Photos cost $5 and proceeds will benefit Tails of Hope Pet Rescue.

B&G Club collecting toys
