Candidate shows courage

One moment of last week’s candidate forum for the upcoming Ennis ISD Board of Trustees election managed to surprise me, something I thought was long impossible.

Candidate Roger Peden II, when asked about campus security and the possibility of arming teachers, was the only one of the three candidates present to unequivocally state that he thought putting guns in the hands of teachers was a bad idea.

It was the only thing said throughout the evening that made me raise my head up from my notebook and really, truly listen, because it was the only real surprising thing said.
