Esteeming our educators

For their value and impact on the youth of this country, many agree school teachers are underpaid. Oddly enough, it is when they are not teaching that we discover their true value. The summer is then when parents must cover the hours their sons or daughters were under the tutelage of teachers during the year.

The Ennis Independent School District has a 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio in the classroom, which is the the state average.

With the new school year just over two weeks away, we would do well to remind ourselves of how critically important those who instruct and often mentor our children are to our community. They do so much in nine months that a summer respite is well deserved.
