Foundation efforts will succeed

Several individuals and groups over the years have attempted to create a foundation for our school system. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, those efforts have fallen short.  This key element to a successful school district has been missing in Ennis and our children and teachers are missing out on tremendous opportunities. But now, efforts are underway to create this vital fund-raising arm of our educational community.

School Board president Bramlet Beard emphasized in today’s article regarding the foundation that one key element for the public to understand regarding the initiative is that this group will be completely independent of the EISD administration and Board of Trustees, however, they will work in cooperation with those entities. Basically, the foundation will raise funds and distribute those funds to worthy educational causes, including continuing education for teachers, field trips and other worthwhile endeavors. The purpose of these funds is not for operation of our school district.  It’s also important to note that the group will be operated as a non-profit organization that will have oversight both locally, and through state and federal guidelines.  We should all feel comfortable when donating money to this cause because the Foundation will be good stewards of the funds raised.
