The Freedom of Information Act is one of the best tools we have as journalists in America.
The Act, along with its various state-level corollaries, endeavors to make governments and their agencies more accountable to the people by enducing them to release records when requested. It only makes sense: your tax dollars fund these agencies; you should be able to see what they’re doing.
