Make effort to stop child abuse
Child abuse is still considered one of the hidden crimes America brings upon itself each year.
According to the advocacy center, Childhelp, more than 6 million cases of child abuse are discovered annually. More startling is that the United States has one of the highest rates of mortality from child abuse in the world, losing between four and seven children per day to neglect.
With National Child Abuse Prevention Month upon us, it’s time to again draw awareness to a problem that should have been stamped out long ago. Though progress has been made in many areas, we still have a long way to go. In Ellis County, the Ellis County Advocacy Center (also known as the Gingerbread House), is our safe haven for the victims of these crimes. A combination of advocates, businesses, volunteers and law enforcement have made the Gingerbread House a tremendous resource for our community. But it still needs help.
