More guns aren’t the answer

The Palmer Independent School District Board of Trustees is considering allowing teachers and other school personnel carry firearms on campus, ostensibly out of some concern for security or students’ safety.

I understand the impulse, certainly. Ever since the tragic events of at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., we’ve all been on edge and worried about school security. I remember talking to Superintendent Barbara Qualls about security at Ennis schools, and whether we should be worried about such an attack taking place in Ennis.

Of course Palmer parents would be no different.
