Reading help always needed

Ennis ISD Superintendent John Chapman said at the Ennis Rotary Club on Tuesday that he and his administrators are considering adding additional reading interventionists at each elementary school campus to address literacy issues. It’s welcome news that anyone with a stake in the local community should be pleased with.

The ability to read is absolutely at the core of any kind of educational success. Chapman was right; if you can’t read you’re not going to be able to keep pace with your literate classmates in any subject.

Study after study shows a strong correlation between early literacy rates and a slew of other metrics from future academic success to incarceration. Elementary reading is absolutely vital.
