Settlement is at least a small victory
The city’s participation in and resolution of a class action lawsuit against Syngenta Crop Protection Inc. is further timely evidence of the work we want to see our city officials do in protecting us from undue expense and danger.
Syngenta settled for more than $105 million last year in the suit, brought by more than 1,000 cities that alleged atrazine contamination placed a significant burden on water systems in purifying out the chemical adulterant. For the reportedly most widely used herbicide in the United States to prove such a problem over the last several years is concerning, disappointing and alarming.
