Sports when it’s least expected

You know, I never really saw this coming.
When I first set out in journalism all those years ago, I never foresaw myself writing about sports with any regularity. I always liked the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, but until I was about 18 it was more about regional pride and sentimentality than a persistent interest in sports themselves.
