Voter ID is worth the time

Last week Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) criticized U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s statement that he would begin investigations into Texas’ new voting laws.

Barton quoted General Anthony McAuliffe’s famous “Nuts!” line at the Battle of the Bulge, saying Holder is acting with a “clear political agenda” and is wasting time and taxpayer money on a frivolous lawsuit.

Holder’s concern over our voter laws is well-founded. Voter ID laws have been shown to disenfranchise wide swaths of the population in order to combat a nearly non-existent problem.
