West disaster shows need for oversight
For our part, seeing federal legislators take a particular interest in the goings-on at chemical plants in the wake of the West fertilizer plant explosion is reassuring.
We say this because the attitude that has come from the center of political power in this state has us fairly concerned. Our own governor has said Texas has already spoken on the issue by electing officials who are against increasing regulation.
“Through their elected officials [people] clearly send the message of their comfort with the amount of oversight,” he told the AP.
That’s a cop out.
