PolkaWorks crew praises Ennis, National Polka Festival

The crew of PolkaWorks wants to acknowledge the community of Ennis for exhibiting amazing Texas Czech pride.

We were there to capture video and photography for a traveling exhibit, “Texas Czechs: Rooted in Tradition,” that is currently in production and will tour throughout Texas over the next three years. We gathered interviews and images, yet the energy of the entire festival captured us.

We witnessed at least three generations on the dance floors in the KJT, Knights of Columbus, and Sokol halls. People wore their version of a kroj as well as T-shirts displaying fun Czech expressions. The music, dancing, tasty food and fellowship were examples of vital and continuously practiced Texas Czech traditions.

We (the PolkaWorks crew) were taken aback by the spirited and genuine display of ethnic pride. We expected to witness that true Texas Czech spirit, but were surprised and humbled by just how deep the love for the Czech heritage seemed to be from all generations.

Great job Ennis and keep the Texas Czech spirit going!
