St. John, community prepare for Bazaar

St. John’s Annual Bazaar, set for the weekend of September 15-16, is well on its way in plans and preparation.
School, parish and many segments of the community have come together to emphasize solidarity of heart and to exercise the use of talents to create a weekend of family fun. This annual multi-cultural, family-oriented event will once again be held on the KJT grounds located on South Paris Street in Ennis.
The bazaar will include kiddie rides, prize game booths, delicious food items including Czech and Mexican specialties, sweets and treats, live and silent auctions, many raffle items, a Sunday barbecue dinner and plenty of “gorditos.” Bingo promises more prizes and surprises.
“We expect this year’s Bazaar to be another big hit!” said 2007 Bazaar Committee Chairman, Larry Deagen. “There are additional inventive ideas which have come out of committee planning once again, and this year our battery is charged with exciting new ideas. Our goal is to have a more people involved in the planning and preparations of the Bazaar and to provide greater variety of entertainment for all age groups,” he added.
The Annual Bazaar Super Raffle prizes have been selected and ticket sales have already begun for this year’s four coveted Super Raffle prizes. Those prizes include a Honda 4-wheeler; a John Deere X-324 riding lawn mower; an EZ-GO golf cart and a 2007 Cub Cadet zero-turn mower. Tickets will go on sale at various business locations from now until the Bazaar.
Sponsors for the Super Raffle are: Platinum Sponsor: Just Win, The Corea Firm P.L.L.C. Trial Lawyers; Gold Sponsors: Ennis Ford Mercury and Globe Products Co., Inc.; and Silver Sponsors include: Ennis State Bank and Action Powersports. Additional sponsors will be announced at the Bazaar.
The general raffle, also benefiting St. John church and school includes a $1,000 Toshiba laptop computer and case; $500 Sony camcorder and accessories; $500 Wal-Mart gift card; A $300 Garmin GPS; $300 Phillips 19” LCD HDTV; $300 Samsung all-in-one home cinema; $300 Gander Mountain gift card; $250 Ipod; $150 Home Depot gift card; $150 Home Depot gift card; $100 Wal-Mart gift card; $100 Savings Bond and a digital camera. Individual ticket sales will continue up until the Bazaar. Additional Bazaar raffle tickets will be on sale at the Sunday dinner at the KJT Hall.

2007 Bazaar Committee members include: Chairman, Larry Deagen, Father Edison Vela, William Becker, Sergio Diaz, Kay Hibbs, Maggie Holy, Carol Honza, Dolores McKibbin, Tony Medina, Jeanette Murphy, Cheryl O’Brien, John Payne, Linda Robledo, Keith Sibley and Barbara Sims. “Numerous other subcommittee members and community workers make up the bazaar support team, which provides the nucleus for a successful bazaar event in Ennis, and we all work as a team to make things work smoothly,” added Deagen.
“The Bazaar committee has also combined our efforts with members of the St. John School’s Advisory Board, Adam Gamble, Board President, and Kenny Smith, Committee Member in a united effort to continue to strengthen plans for the Bazaar, and we have accomplished a great deal through this association,” Deagen said. “Raffle tickets are being sold at various business locations around Ennis between now and at the Bazaar,” said Deagen. Tickets may also be purchased at the St. John Business Center office located next to the church, at 401 E. Lampasas Street.
