Second device set off Saturday; no injuries reported in either case

Juveniles reportedly set off a makeshift bomb at Ennis High School on Friday, and a second, similar explosion was reported near downtown Saturday.

Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson, Ennis Police Department public information officer, said two juveniles were arrested and still in custody Monday in connection with the Friday explosion.

The two juveniles also appeared in juvenile court Monday.

Suspects have not been tracked down in the explosion reported Saturday.

The EHS incident happened at about 8 a.m. Friday, Hopson said. Two freshmen allegedly blew up the small explosive behind a trash bin at the school near the cafeteria and school personnel called police.

“Witnesses identified the two suspects and they were taken into custody,” Hopson said.

The two juveniles were charged with possession of a prohibited weapon or explosive device.

Ennis ISD Police Chief Ross Jones said the explosion at EHS was caused by a chemical device.
