City ready to sign off on land

City commissioners should finish their consideration today on annexing and rezoning a giant 189-acre tract of land on the south side of U.S. 287 near old Alma Road for a new industrial park project.
The annexation and zoning ordinances, on the agenda since May, are up for second reading at the city commission’s regular meeting tonight, rescheduled for the Fourth of July holiday city closing on Monday. The commission will meet at 7 p.m. in commission chambers at 115 W. Brown St. Workshop begins at 6 p.m.
Steve Howerton, city manager, has told commissioners the annexation and zoning case is part of about 460 acres intended to become a new industrial center for the city. The case is represented by Alan Lauhoff with Milford firm Atlas Associates, Inc., for developer Bill Olsen. The land is intended to have rail access, as well, according to documentation submitted to the city’s Planning and Zoning board in April.
