This Saturday night, people from all over the county will attend “A Night Under the Stars” with Meals on Wheels.

The event begins the fund-raising campaign to build a new regional kitchen facility for Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties.

“This event is our kick off to the fund-raising campaign for the new kitchen facility,” said Vinsen Faris, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties. “We are really excited about it.”

The celebration will be held at the site where the new kitchen will be built, south of Midlothian, in TXI Railport. TXI has donated two acres on which the kitchen facility will be built, Faris said.

“The kitchen facility will be located right in the middle of our service area, which is pretty cool,” Faris said.

Over $750,000 has already been raised to build the facility. The Joe Barton Family Foundation made the first donation to the fund to build the kitchen, donating half a million dollars.

Barton, who serves as the Honorary Chairman of Kitchen Cabinet for Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties, will be the special guest at a VIP Reception. The VIP Reception will take place at 6 p.m. Barton will be there to meet with guests, and there will also be an open bar.

A barbecue dinner will be served between 7 and 7:30 p.m., followed by dancing under the stars. Over 300 people are expected to attend, Faris said. The guests will be able to view the initial plans for the facility and the two-acre site where the kitchen is to be built will be lit in order for guests to see its location. The reception, dinner and dancing will take place near the site, in a large, enclosed tent.
