Ennis and other cities in Texas have been under cloudy skies since last week, with more than 8 inches of rain falling here since Thursday.

The rain continued Monday, with the Ennis Fire Department reporting more rain falling yesterday than any of the previous four days. There was over 2 inches of rain on Monday alone, said David Hopkins, fire chief for Ennis Fire Department.

This steady rainfall led to the closing of dozens of roads all over Ellis County. In Bristol, 3 feet of rushing water was reported Monday on FM 660. In the Palmer area, both northbound and southbound service roads off I-45 had water across the roadway.
