Corps contracts Bardwell work

While the city is still negotiating how it will pay for its share of the cost, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted out a $2 million project at Lake Bardwell.
City Commission members were caught by surprise by the Corps’ move, as was City Manager Steve Howerton — and the award for the project actually came last week. It was also unclear who would be doing the work.
“We didn’t know they were moving forward with the contract letting,” Howerton said. “I think it’s unusual they’d move forward without securing all of their funding.”
