Homecoming win is key
Showdown pits Lions against Panthers

Over the last eight years on homecoming night, it’s been a mixed bag for Lion football.
In 2001 (53-0 vs. Red Oak), 2003 (69-7 vs. Red Oak), 2004 (63-3 vs. Mabank) and 2006 (42-9 vs. Midlothian), Ennis totally annihilated the competition. In 2005 (36-17 vs. Waco University) and 2008 (65-38 vs. Mesquite Horn), the opponents showed signs of life and yet the Lions won comfortably.
As if tonight’s game wasn’t already crucial enough, these 2009 Lions will need to stay on their toes as local fans think back to 2002 and 2007. In ’02, 3A Marlin shocked the Lions 20-12 and then in ’07, Red Oak showed it wasn’t the same old doormat with a very surprising 24-12 win. This year’s Ennis squad (4-4, 2-3) has to play winning football from here on out, and the streak must start against a struggling Midlothian Panther ballclub (1-7, 0-5).
Briefly looking back to last week’s road loss to Midway, coach Sam Harrell was very pleased with his team’s defensive effort and Ennis’ running game against 16-4A’s top defense.
