The Ennis Kiwanis Club installed its new set of officers for 2009-10 at their meeting Thursday.
Kiwanis Region 2 Lt. Governor Jay Macaulay came to the meeting to install the officers, which included President Ellen Miller, Vice President J. Hugh Green, Second Vice President Lee Johnson and Secretary Treasurer Mike Miller.
Miller, who served as president of the club two years ago, is entering her second term.
Miller said her plans for the club’s upcoming year include recruiting new members, looking for new projects and contributing to the club’s charity partner, the Boys and Girls Club of Ennis.
Right now, Miller said the club is concentrating its efforts on putting together Christmas food baskets for the elderly. She said donations for the baskets will be accepted at Super 1 Foods.
Macaulay told the Kiwanians how proud he is that they have survived more than 60 years as a club. He said he came across the club’s charter, which was dated May 10, 1945.
“That is very impressive,” Macaulay said. “That is a fabulous tradition you have.”
Of the clubs located in Region 2, two clubs, Waxahachie and Rowlett, have closed. Macaulay said the Waxahachie club could be reinstated.
“Service clubs are struggling,” Miller said. “We are happy our core membership has not decreased.”
