Spotlight on ... Painter La Juan Schlegel

La Juan Schlegel’s artistic talent was apparent even when she was child.
She is a native of Mount Enterprise, a small town surrounded by pine forest in east Texas. Nature has always been an inspiration and capturing it on canvas one of her drives.
“As a high school student I was always drawing,” she said.
Her parents took notice and encouraged her to pursue art as career, but it didn’t seem possible at the time.
“Women didn’t consider as many fields as being open to them as they do today,” Schlegel said. “One of the most desirable jobs for women of the time was to be a secretary."
