Federal stimulus-funded roadwork on Kaufman Street will continue into July 2010, according to the latest reports from the Texas Department of Transportation Office in Waxahachie.
The district office is overseeing the work, which began in September after bidding this July to a firm named Austin Bridge and Road, said TxDOT’s Scott Morrow. Total project cost is estimated at $1.95 million, and documentation that accompanied the bid-letting report called for the project to generate 22 direct jobs.
As of now, much of the roadway has been stripped of its old overlayed asphalt, Morrow said, and the project’s goal is to repair the roadway from south of SH 34 to I-45 North. That, in some areas, will require spot repairs to the road’s base, which Morrow said is decades old.
