The Ennis Kiwanis Club is partnering with Super 1 Foods to deliver boxes of food to senior citizens for Christmas.

As part of the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive organized by Super 1 Foods’ parent company, Brookshire Grocery Company, the Kiwanis Club will fill 75-80 boxes with nonperishable food items and deliver them to residents at the Ennis Senior Citizen Apartments, said Ellen Miller, president of the Ennis Kiwanis Club. Also inside the boxes will be vouchers, which the recipients can bring to Super 1 Foods in exchange for a frozen hen.

Nonperishable food items are now being collected at Super 1 Foods and Houston Elementary for the food drive. Shoppers at Super 1 Foods can also donate by purchasing a $1 or $5 coupon at the register through Nov. 27. After Nov. 27, the accumulated money will be given as a Super 1 Foods gift card to the Kiwanis Club. The club will then purchase groceries to go in the food boxes. Food donations will be accepted until Dec. 15.
