, Special to the EDN
11-19-2009
For members of the Ennis Golden Circle Senior Citizens Center, each day at the center brings fellowship and a variety of activities.
The Golden Circle is open five days a week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Mondays, the group visits local nursing homes. On Tuesdays, Rae Warchime leads singing, and Darrell Nelson leads devotion. Wednesday is game day, with the Golden Crusaders visiting the Center to play joker. Thursday is Bible study, and Friday is bingo day.
As director of the Golden Circle, Mary Nell Glaspy said the members are grateful to have a place to go to socialize with each other.
“It gives them a reason to get up in the morning,” she said. “They have somewhere to go and something to do.”
A van provides transportation to and from the center for members who are no longer able to drive. The center also offers a nutritious lunch for members every day, Glaspy said.
Membership is open to anyone 60 or older, and the oldest member is
92. Membership is $5 a year.
