An Ellis County grand jury has indicted a 21-year-old Bardwell man for aggravated kidnapping, assault causing bodily injury and retaliation.

Ennis police arrested Jeffrey Scott Gothard, 21, in November for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend’s child after she refused to rekindle their relationship.

Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson, Ennis police spokesman, said police responded to a call from the mother of a 14-month-old boy who said her son had been kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, who she identified as Jeffrey Scott Gothard, of Bardwell.

“He’d been following her around town,” Hopson said. “She stopped in the 3300 block of the I-45 Service Road and told him to leave her alone, and he asked her to leave her current boyfriend and be with him.”
