Toy drives to benefit local area

With a handful of days left before Christmas, there are still opportunities to reach out to the needy children in our area through toy drives.

The Wooden Nickel will host a toy drive Friday afternoon and evening, but also on tap through Saturday is the first in a hopefully annual effort to unite Navarro, Ellis and Freestone counties in a tri-county toy drive.

To take part in the Wooden Nickel’s third annual drive, bring an unwrapped toy between 3 p.m.-2 a.m. to the business at 111 W. Ennis Ave.

The tri-county drive is also creating a buzz — collection points at the Ennis Daily News, McCoy’s Building Supply in Corsicana and the Fairfield Recorder in Fairfield have already brought in quite a number of donations, said project organizer Leon Tates.

Tates, the store manager at McCoy’s, said the tri-county drive was born after a successful food drive effort held for Thanksgiving.

Give a little

To take part in the Wooden Nickel’s annual toy drive, bring an unwrapped gift to the business, located at 111 W. Ennis Ave., between 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday.

To give toward the Tri-County Toy Drive, drop toys by one of these locations by Saturday:

• Ennis Daily News, 213 N. Dallas St.

• McCoy’s Building Supply, 3000 S. U.S 287, Corsicana

• Fairfield Recorder, 101 E. Commerce St., Fairfield
