Ennis man opens up past to EFD

History is being pieced together for the Ennis Fire Department.
The Ennis Fire Fighters Association recently acquired a 1927 American LaFrance Ladder Truck, which was operated by the department until the late 1960s. After it came out of service, Jim Bob Wilson, president of the Ennis Evening Lions Club, worked to acquire it for the club.
In 1972, the club bought it, and it was used in city functions, such as parades, until the mid-1980s, when the Evening Lions Club dissolved.
After that, the truck sat in a vacant field until it was bought by the Ennis Fire Fighters Association, which is planning to restore the old truck.
Kirk Wilson, son of Jim Bob Wilson, heard about the association’s plans, and wanted to help them put the pieces of the truck’s history together. Jim Bob died in 2008, and in going through his things, Kirk found letters from the 1970s detailing the Evening Lions Club’s purchase of the truck.
