U.S. 287 funding on the table

The Ennis City Commission will consider a resolution of support for the U.S. 287 Bypass project in Ennis at its regular 7 p.m. meeting Monday.
The resolution, the last the commission will likely consider in 2009, would put the city’s stamp of approval on the project’s funding agreement. That agreement calls for large contributions from the state and a funding match from the city for acquisition of right of way. A large chunk of the state’s funds would come from toll fees collected in another county.
Total costs are broken down in the agreement before the commission.
Right of way acquisition costs are tabbed at $5.07 million, with construction set for nearly $35 million and other incidental costs to the state tallying nearly $4.67 million. Ennis’ Local Government Participation share of the project falls under right of way costs and will total $1.37 million.
