A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Joe Barton doesn’t think the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has much footing to continue a plan that would end up costing its partner cities big bucks.
The Corps and cities like Ennis, Waxahachie and Corsicana are locked in a struggle over funds for the man-made Lake Bardwell reservoir and stimulus-backed maintenance work.
The Corps’ stance since the issue came to light in June has been that funding increases through stimulus must be matched by large increases in municipal responsibility.
“Our office will not stop working on this issue until the Army Corps of Engineers sees and clearly follows the letter of the law,” Brown said.
