CASH goes back to county

Opponents of a proposed slaughterhouse presented their cause to the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court on Monday night.
Citizens Against the Slaughter House addressed the court at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting in an effort to bring them up to speed on attempts to prevent the slaughterhouse from making a home in any part of Ellis County. Although the actual facility would fall on Navarro County property, the access road lies in Ellis County and there are concerns over road wear and tear as well as reduced quality of life and property values for those living nearby.
CASH representative Diana Rawlins spoke to the court about actions the group is taking to persuade the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to hold a formal hearing to decide whether or not the slaughterhouse group, American Zabiha Meat Inc., should be permitted to conduct business in the area.
