911 upgrade near

Ellis County, along with the rest of north central Texas, will be the first region in the state to put in place the New Generation 911 system.

The new system, County Planner Barbara Leftwich said, will bring emergency responders and the 911 system into the cellular age.

“The 911 system was started in 1968, and still depends on land lines,” she said. “The New Generation will address that 90 percent of calls now come in through cell phones.”
