Alvarez’s Lions taking shape

Nearly every high school football coach in Texas looks forward to hitting the practice field for that first week of spring ball, but Ennis coach Jack Alvarez had extra motivation.
After all, he’s getting the chance to see his Lions in helmets and pads for the first time since he joined the program.
“It’s such an advantage for us right now to have spring football,” Alvarez said. “I’d hate to see this evaluation going on Aug. 1, so for me to get a better idea of who can do what and everyone getting used to a new playbook this is a great opportunity for all of us to get on the same page. Terminology is an opponent right now and these guys are learning a new language. If we were trying to do all of this in August, we’d be way behind.”
