After pasting local and area competition, the Ennis American Legion 8-and-Under girls team will take their baseball game to the state level next week in Temple.

Porfy Rios, the head coach, knew he had a good team when they won every game on their schedule at Bluebonnet Park. Last week they upped their performance by going 4-0 at the district tournament to improve their overall record to a sterling 19-0.

Their next stop is in central Texas, 35 miles south of Waco. Two teams from each of five districts advance to the double-elimination state event that begins on Monday. James Wilson Park will serve as the host playing site.

Unlike the girls 8-and-Under Coach Pitch League, the American Legion squad faces its’ pitches from a machine set on the pitcher’s mound.
