The unfinished Superconducting Super Collider facility in Waxahachie is up for sale.
The property, according to an online ad, was once “a profoundly expensive dream of the U.S. Department of Energy in the late 1980s to house the world’s largest and highest energy particle accelerator and its supporting facilities.” Its 14 miles of tunnels and 213,000 square feet of supporting facilities were reportedly bought at $6.5 million by the current owners.
