County Judge Carol Bush responded to allegations of receiving improper payments, saying the accusations are unfair defamations made in the face of a heated election race.
Constable Terry Nay wrote in a letter to the editor sent to several local media outlets, including the Ennis Daily News, that Bush accepted $15,000 for duties she did not perform.
Bush responded Thursday saying she has attempted to return the $7,531.10 of the $15,000 supplement she had received so far, saying while she intended to do the work, she no longer has time to conduct the business that would qualify her for the money.
