The members of the Ennis Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Ennis class will embark on a trip to the state’s capital city Thursday.
Among other activities, the class and others joining them in Austin for Ennis Day will meet with local representatives regarding the Hwy 287 bypass project.
Jeannette Patak, chamber president, said the chamber sent out form letters for community members to sign that will be given to representatives.
“We’re probably going to have around 50 to take with us,” Patak said. “We’re going to hand deliver those.”
City Manager Steve Howerton will make the trip with the group and present statistics on the dangers of the two-lane stretch of Hwy 287. Patak said one of the statistics Howerton will reference shows a total of 191 accidents documented on the bypass from Jan. 1, 2003 – Dec. 31, 2010 with 84 of those resulting in 154 people injured and six fatalities.
