City manager search starting

The Ennis City Commission is set to consider its succession plans for City Manager Steve Howerton after the 32-year administrator announced his retirement last week.

Howerton, hired for the job in 1981, disclosed Sept. 30 that he would be vacating the position on Dec. 31. Mayor Russell Thomas said plans to hire a search firm to headhunt for the next city manager were already in the works at the time, and the item has appeared on the commission’s Monday agenda.
