City mulls potential tax hikes

The Ennis City Commission voted unanimously on Monday to bring the second of two proposed sales tax hikes before voters in November, while Police Chief John Erisman fielded questions about the proposed Crime Control and Prevention District.

The .25 percent sales tax increased voted on Monday night would exclusively fund repairs of existing streets, according to City Manager Chuck Ewings. That increase, along with the .25 sales tax increase meant to fund the Crime Control and Prevention District, will go before voters for final approval in November.
