Coordinator job is first priority

Downtown development advocates want the Ennis City Commission’s backing in further work on the city’s heart, including hiring a new person to oversee the effort.

The Greater Ennis Development Alliance presented their goals to the commission Tuesday in front of a packed house.

Beyond hiring a downtown development coordinator, the group wants the city to try and apply quickly for Main Street designation. Ennis had such a designation in the 1980s, but let it lapse. Benefits include intangibles like database access, conference and training discounts, insurance product access, a network of peer communities to tap for ideas and other member resources.
