Demo plans move forward

Downtown property owners and preservation-minded members of the Historic Landmark Commission and public at large were at odds Tuesday night over whether tearing down historic buildings is the best course.

In a discussion spanning more than two and a half hours, property owners Keith Jantz and Buddy and Leann Markham asked for the HLC’s approval to tear down their tornado-damaged downtown buildings. Assessments in the wake of the May 16 tornado have led both parties to conclude demolition is their best option.
