District budget better than expected

The Ennis ISD Board of Trustees approved its budget for the upcoming school year on Tuesday night, as well as a budget amendment for the previous year greatly lowering the expected budget deficit.

Lisa Fincher, assistant superintendent of finance, said a number of factors helped reduce the originally projected $2.4 million budget deficit for the 2012-2013 school year all the way down to roughly $128,000. Earlier estimates at the beginning of August had called for a deficit of up to $1.5 million, the first time the district would have ended a budget year in the red in recent years. Fincher said the district collected more property tax revenues this year.
